The Edmonton Oilers and prospect Carter Savoie have put pen to paper on a three-year, entry-level contract.
The contract, and its details, were first made public by CapFriendly, who reported that the contract kicks off this season.
According to CapFriendly, he will receive a minor league salary of $80k, while the rest of his deal breaks down as follows:
2021-22: $832.5k + $92.5k SB
2022-23: $832.5k + $92.5k SB
2023-24: $832.5k + $92.5k SB
Savoie, a native of St. Albert, was selected by the Oilers in the fourth round of the 2020 draft and has spent the last two seasons with the NCAA’s Denver Pioneers. This past season, he was an integral piece in the Pioneers’ Frozen Four championship win scoring game-winning goals in the Loveland Regional Final, and the overtime winner against the powerhouse Michigan Wolverines to send the Pioneers to the finals. There, they captured the schools ninth title.
This season was a big one for him. He earned All-NCHC honours with his 23 goals ranking fourth in the nation and scoring 45 points in 39 games. To top it all off, he was a nominee for the Hobey Baker award as the NCAA’s best player.
All in all, he turns pro having scored 36 goals and 65 points in 63 games. In his freshman year, he led the Pioneers in goals (13) while coming second in points (20) and was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team.
Following the championship win, Savoie signed an amateur tryout with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, where he’s been since.
