The Edmonton Oilers return home riding a three-game win streak, having paid off on the NHL betting lines as a +110 road underdog with a 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. The Oilers face another team that is desperately trying to stay in the Western Conference wild-card race as the Vancouver Canucks come to Rogers Arena.
The Oilers opened as -150 home favourites (bet $150 to win $100) for Thursday night at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, with the Canucks coming back at +125 and a 5.5-goal total. Since Connor McDavid first slipped on the copper and blue in 2015-16, the Oilers are 6-2 in eight home games against the Canucks. Vancouver is on the back end of a back-to-back after a 3-2 overtime win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, but it is 3-12 in its last 15 games when it played the previous day.
This will be the fourth Edmonton-Vancouver game of the season. In the most recent meeting on January 16, Edmonton eked out a 3-2 shootout win at Vancouver as a slight -105 road underdog, with McDavid scoring once and Jujhar Khaira also tallying.
Goals have been at a premium in this Pacific Division matchup, as 11 of the last 12 games have finished with six goals or fewer. The OddsShark NHL Database also notes that six of the Oilers’ last 10 divisional home games have finished UNDER for totals bettors.
Goalie Mikko Koskinen has started all three Oilers games against Vancouver this season. He’s also stopped 100 of 105 shots during the team’s current three-game win streak.
The teams are both outside of the playoff picture right now, sitting seven points behind the Minnesota Wild, who hold the second wild-card berth in the Western Conference entering Thursday’s NHL games. The Oilers have a game in hand on Minnesota.
Thursday’s game is the start of a four-game homestand for the Oilers, who also host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday prior to visits next week from the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. The Canucks’ next game is against the Vegas Golden Knights at home on Saturday.
