Edmonton Oilers waive Troy Grosenick

3 years agoThe Troy Grosenick era in Edmonton could be coming to an end.
The 31-year-old goalie, who the Oilers claimed on waivers on Jan. 16, dressed in two games for the team appearing as the backup but never saw game action.
It coincides with the belief that goaltender Mike Smith is likely to be activated from the injured reserve soon.
Waiving Grosenick, in my eyes, it a bit counterproductive. He had to undergo a 14-day quarantine period upon arriving in Edmonton and cleared that just last week. It would mean the team’s third goaltender would be rookie Stuart Skinner, who let in five goals against the Ottawa Senators last week in his NHL debut.
The hope is, of course, that Grosnick goes unclaimed and would be able to remain in Edmonton as a third goaltender. Skinner would likely be better with the Bakersfield Condors, where he would get the majority of the starts with a veteran team.
Nonetheless, we’ll see what happens tomorrow morning.
