Former Condors coach Gerry Fleming lands in the German league

According to German entertainment site, RTL, former Bakersfield Condors head coach, Gerry Fleming, has landed a new gig as an assistant coach with Eisbaren Berlin of the German Ice Hockey League.
After spending the last nine years in the Oilers farm system as either a head coach or an assistant coach, Fleming will make his way to Germany to become an assistant coach with Eisbären Berlin of the DEL. After manning the Condors and Barons bench for the past four seasons, Fleming will now find himself alongside new Eisbären Berlin head coach Clement Jodoin.
When his playing career with the AHL Fredericton Canadiens in 1998, Fleming quickly pivoted to coaching after landing a spot as an assistant coach with the same franchise for the following season. Fleming’s experience will surely be relied upon as he makes the transition from the American Hockey League to the German league.
Fleming’s Condors had missed the playoffs in all three years since becoming the Oilers’ AHL affiliate and it wasn’t much a surprise that the two sides parted ways.
Over the years, the DEL has developed into a much more competitive hockey league with more ex-NHLers joining the ranks every year, heightening the skill level and overall league development. To see the improvement, you can look no further than the somewhat surprising silver medal win for German at this past year’s Olympics in Pyeongchang.
