Last night, former @Edmonton Oilers forward, Pat Maroon, did a quick live broadcast on his Twitter feed to talk to fans as a way of keeping connected and trying to pass the time during this work stoppage. Obviously, a lot of us are voluntarily trapped inside right now and the Big Rig wanted to do what he could to provide a little bit of entertainment during what can only be described as a trying time for everyone.

 

I don’t know about you guys, but I still love @Patrick Maroon as much as I did when he was patrolling @Connor McDavid’s left wing, and seeing him do what he can to try and entertain and keep in touch with hockey fans while the NHL season is suspended was greatly appreciated. There’s just something about the Big Rig being himself that warms my heart and I’m honestly hoping that he will keep doing these live broadcasts and talking to fans on a daily basis. I missed it last night when Maroon was actually live on Periscope but rewatching his quick live-cast this morning was a little dose of fun that I honestly needed. There’s just a genuineness and sweetness to his personality that made me happy as I watched him chat, and when you consider the ridiculousness of what’s going on in the world right now, getting a mood boost in any way possible is invaluable.

If there’s one positive that we can take away from what’s going on in the world right now, it’s that so many people are doing what they can to stay connected and trying and provide some normalcy in an otherwise abnormal time. For a guy like Pat Maroon, he’s using his platform to try and connect with hockey fans as a means of keeping the community close and it was a small gesture that means a lot to a lot of people. Here at Oilersnation, our goal and promise to all of you is to keep producing as many daily articles and as much content as we possibly can, and seeing the response from all of you to what we’re trying to do has honestly been a wonderful morale boost. Right now, we’re all living through one of the strangest periods in history and the fact that we’re all in this together means that we’ll be forever connected in a way that no one could have ever predicted or expected. So to everyone reading this right now, know how grateful I am to have a few minutes of your time when you could be doing literally anything else right now — it really means a lot.
