Risky Business: Need a save, need a goal, need a win

If the Edmonton Oilers lose the first two games of the season, should we stay calm or overreact? The answer is both. That’s what we did. While some folks were ready to trade the farm — one guy called into Reid Wilkins’ show and suggested trading Drai and a first for Casey DeSmith — most of us took a breath before raging because it’s only been two games. I, personally, love every minute of it. The fans in this town are as passionate as it gets, and for that reason, this third game of the year probably feels more important than it should. And seeing as I actually won some money on Saturday night despite the outcome, my body is ready to dabble in a few game day bets as a spiritual assist in manifesting a win. Of course, we always need wins for the bankroll, but picking up two points tonight in Nashville would also probably do a little good for the spirit.

If you’re following along at home, the odds I’m using for my game day betting articles all season come from Betway. Here’s what I’m putting down against the Nashville Predators.

Leon Draisaitl over 1.5 total points at +115. My $5 bet would return $10.75.

Oilers puck line (-1.5) at +155. My $5 bet would return $12.75.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl both to score at +250. My $5 bet would return $17.50.

Oilers ML and over 5.5 total goals at +140. My $5 bet would return $12.00.

As much as I’m happy that I hit 3/4 bets on the night, I’m also annoyed that the Oilers blew a game that they probably should have won. Sweet and salty, as it were. Yes, it’s two games into the season. Yes, I’m overreacting anyway.
