The Sharks opened the scoring late in the first period. Fabian Zetterlund was all alone in the high slot and buried a shot past Stuart Skinner to make the score 1-0.
The Oilers evened the score at 1-1 early in the second frame. Darnell Nurse took an outlet pass from Leon Drasiaitl and flew up the ice on a two-on-one. Nurse kept the puck and sniped a shot blocker side past Mackenzie Blackwood.
The Sharks regained their lead a few minutes later when Tomas Hertl capitalized on a fortunate bounce in Edmonton’s zone.
Filip Zadina gave the Sharks a 3-1 lead early in the third period when he buried a pass from Nico Sturm on a two-on-one. It was the third goal of the season for Zadina, who was the last first-round pick Ken Holland made while with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Oilers made things interesting late in the third period when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins buried a rebound to make the score 3-2. The Sharks managed to close the door after that and escape with their second win of the season.
