That’s why they say there’s no such thing as a free win in the NHL.
The Edmonton Oilers hosted the basement-dwelling Anaheim Ducks on Saturday afternoon and exactly what you’d unfortunately expect to happen during a matinee game happened. Below are the highlights from the Oilers’ 4-3 loss to the Ducks.

THE DAY AFTER IS PRESENTED BY BETWAY

The Oilers opened the scoring five minutes into the game. You know Darnell Nurse came into this game looking for a goal after the flub in the dying moments of Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Blues…
Lethargic play from the Oilers in the latter part of the first period allowed the Ducks to get themselves into the game. Mason ‘Don’t Call Me Craig’ McTavish carried the puck into Edmonton’s zone and found Sam Carrick. who tapped in his first goal of the season…
Late in the first period, Darnell Nurse took a two-minute cross-checking penalty and the Ducks capitalized. Cam Fowler took a one-timer from the point that slid past a screened Stuart Skinner…
The Ducks got themselves a 3-1 lead a few minutes into the second period. Evan Bouchard made an errant pass at the Ducks’ blueline and, naturally, former Oiler Ryan Strome scored on the ensuing breakaway…

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins made the score 3-2 right before the end of the second period with a power-play goal…
Things were looking good for the Oilers early in the third period when Connor McDavid tied the game on a 5-on-3 power play…
Maybe Ken Holland should have pulled the trigger on a trade earlier. Just a few minutes after the Oilers tied the game, John Klingberg put the Ducks up by a score of 4-3…
