This game between Edmonton and Nashville featured the Oilers debut of Corey Perry, who suited up on the team’s third line with Dylan Holloway and Ryan McLeod. Perry made his presence felt in his first shift with his new team.
The Oilers opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He sniped a shot over goaltender Kevin Lankinen for his 12th goal of the season.
The Oilers doubled their lead to 2-0 with another power-play goal in the second period. This time, Leon Draisaitl wired a one-time snapshot past Lankinen from his office at the bottom of the faceoff circle. The goal was Draisaitl’s 800th point in the NHL.
The Predators poured on quite a bit of pressure in the third period but Connor McDavid was able to give the Oilers some insurance with his 20th goal of the season. McDavid picked up a rebound, skated behind the net, and bounced the puck off of Lakninen and in.
Just a few minutes away from the team’s second shutout in a row, Colton Sissons put Nashville on the board. That’s as close as the Preds would get, as Zach Hyman added an empty net goal to make the score 4-1. The empty-netter was Hyman’s 30th goal of the season.
