It didn’t take long for the Oilers to open the scoring. Connor McDavid was sent in on a breakaway thanks to a great outlet pass from Zach Hyman and he made no mistake, going five-hole on Spencer Martin for his 40th of the season…
Later in the first period, the Oilers made the score 2-0 with another goal that started with a perfect outlet pass. This time, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins intercepted a pass in front of Edmonton’s net and fed the puck to McDavid just outside Vancouver’s blueline. Zach Hyman busted to the net and tucked in McDavid’s pass for his 24th of the season…
In the second period, Leon Draisaitl extended Edmonton’s lead to 3-0 with his 28th goal of the season. Nugent-Hopkins passed the puck up ice for Hyman who feathered it to Draisaitl for a one-time snapshot that went five-hole on Martin…
The Canucks managed to get on the board before the end of the second period. Quinn Hughes hit Elias Pettersson at Edmonton’s blueline with a nice breakout pass and Andrei Kuzmenko snuck in on a breakaway and sniped a shot past Stuart Skinner…
Early in the third period, the Canucks made the score 3-2 when a point shot from J.T. Miller made its way through a screened Skinner…
Zach Hyman appeared to make the score 4-2 for the Oilers later in the third, but it was called back on a coach’s challenge for goaltender interference. A few minutes later, Nugent-Hopkins put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal…
