Another day, another 5-4 loss that came in the shootout. This time, the Edmonton Oilers got dropped by the New York Rangers despite having a 4-1 lead in the first period. Below are the highlights from the game…

GAME HIGHLIGHTS ARE PRESENTED BY BETWAY

The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period while Vincent Trochek was in the penalty box for interference. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hit Zach Hyman with a pass right in the slot and wound up burying the rebound…
Later in the frame, the Oilers extended the score to 2-0 when Tyson Barrie came in from the point and fired a loose puck over Igor Shesterkin…
Just seconds after that goal was scored, the Oilers extended their lead to 3-0. Zach Hyman worked the puck out from behind the net and found Derek Ryan who sniped his 10th of the season past Shesterkin…
The Rangers got themselves back into the game just over one minute later while Darnell Nurse was in the penalty box for slashing. Chris Kreider parked himself in front of the net and finished off a nice tic-tac-toe passing play to make the score 3-1…
A couple of minutes before the end of the first period, Leon Draisaitl restored Edmonton’s three-goal lead with a power play goal of his own…
The Oilers had a chance to really put the game out of reach in the second frame while Alexis Lafreniere was penalized for holding. The Rangers intercepted a shot-pass and broke the puck up ice and Kreider capitalized on a fortunate bounce off of Tyson Barrie to make the score 4-2…
Early in the third period, Kaapo Kakko found Alexis Lafreniere out front who sniped a shot past Jack Campbell to bring the Rangers to within one goal…

In the latter part of the third period, the Rangers got a five-on-three man advantage, as Mattias Janmark went to the penalty box for hooking and the Oilers took a delay of game penalty, Mika Zibanejad tied the game at 4-4…
Just like with the game against the Detroit Red Wings earlier this week, overtime solved nothing so the Oilers and Rangers went to a shootout. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was the only Oiler to score and Alexis Lafreniere finally won it for the Rangers in the fifth round…
