GDB 30.0 Wrap Up: Ducks @ Oilers

Meet, Alana. She emailed me this picture, and I think the picture says it all. Final Score: 4-2 Ducks.
Having the Oilers play the Ducks two times in a row is both insulting and mean. Let me explain with some very fancy math I’ve been working on. With tonight’s win, the Anaheim Ducks have 45 points on the season. The Oilers have19 points. That means that the Ducks are 26 points ahead of the Oilers, which is more points than the Oilers have total points. That’s not good. I call it the “Baggedmilk” Factor. I soon expect it to take the hockey world by storm.
In the “Baggedmilk” Factor field – the Oilers have been very strong in recent years. To explain the “Baggedmilk” further, I will use last year as an example. During the 2013-14 season, the 28th place Oilers finished with 67 points. Meanwhile, the 1st place Boston Bruins finished with 117 points – a difference of 50 total points which equals 75% of the Oilers season total. Therefore, one could say that the Boston Bruins had a “Baggedmilk” factor of .75. With that in mind, this season’s Ducks team has a Baggedmilk factor of 1.37 over the Oilers. Very impressive! Is my stat fancy enough?
Okay, so maybe that was a bunch of bullshit, and likely not worth the time I spent dreaming that up. I just didn’t know what else to write that hasn’t already been written ad nauseam. The Oilers were beaten by a much better team. They made some mistakes, and the Ducks capitalized. The Oilers only really started playing once they were down by 3 goals. At that point, it’s too late. The moral victories aren’t worth jack in the standings. Just another chapter in the never ending story that is the Oilers.

THE BRIGHT SIDE
- Taylor Hall laid a huge hit on Ben Lovejoy. I’d like to see angry Taylor Hall a little more often.
- We ordered so much Oodle Noodle for our lunch meeting that I scored a substantial amount of leftovers.
- The photoshop contest entries are hilarious. I looked at them for a good chunk of the 2nd period.
- Tyler Pitlick’s goal was a beauty. Top shelf. Nice snipe. The goal was made possible by a huge shift by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He was laying the body, and the Oilers were rewarded by the turnover. Actually, Nuge was good all night long. He was the best Oiler tonight.
- Oscar Klefbom keeps getting better.
- Ben Scrivens was solid in relief of Viktor Fasth. He stopped everything that was sent his way.
THE FACE PALMERS
- It took the Oilers 10 minutes to get their first shot of the game. Yes, the Ducks had already scored by then.
- The Ducks haven’t lost yet this year when leading after the 1st period.
- That was probably the worst start to a 2nd period that anyone could have imagined ever.
- Viktor Fasth had a tough night. He let in 3 goals on 12 shots and finished with a .750 save%. That being said, he didn’t get any help on the 2nd and 3rd goals. It was nice to see him snap on the bench, at least someone is showing some emotion.
- The Oilers are the best at losing.
