GDB 32.0 Wrap Up: Oilers take care of business, sink Sharks in 5-0 shutout

It’s time for the Edmonton Oilers to go streaking… again.
On Thursday evening, Edmonton kicked off their California trip, taking on the San Jose Sharks. They beat the awful team 5-0, bringing their record to 16-15-1 and extending their win streak to three games.
Let’s look at Oilersnation’s Player of the Game, as well as things worth mentioning.

THE WRAP UP IS PRESENTED BY BETWAY

Oilersnation’s Player of the Game: Ryan McLeod
The 24-year-old centre man continued to stay hot, as he scored his sixth goal of the season and 13th point of the year.
Once again, it was an early goal for McLeod, as he scored a minute into the game as he beat San Jose’s goalie after making a nice move to beat his defender. McLeod would later add an assist as well.
He has six points in his last three games, including four goals. The line with Leon Draisaitl and Warren Foegele appears to be working well.
Things worth mentioning:
Stuart Skinner saved all 25 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career. With this performance, Skinner’s save percentage has increased to .891% from .886%. He’s been solid as of late.
Evan Bouchard also picked up a goal and an assist. His goal was his ninth of the season, while he also has 34 points in 32 games. The 24-year-old defenceman is slowly becoming elite before our eyes, and hopefully his great play can continue.
Connor Brown picked up his second point of the season, as he assisted on Bouchard’s goal. The 29-year-old hasn’t lived up to his contract as of yet, as he only has two assists in 25 games this season. After a major knee surgery that ended his 2022-23 season, he may never find his game that he had when he was with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators.
Zach Hyman scored his 20th goal of the season as well as an assist. He’s been nothing short of fantastic, as he also has 33 points in 31 games this season for the Oilers. Hyman’s 20 goals is tied for fifth in the league, behind Auston Matthews, Nikita Kucherov, Brock Boeser, and Sam Reinhart. That’s some elite company.
Darnell Nurse was the only other two-point getter, picking up an assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ goal, as well as an assist on Hyman’s goal. Nurse has five goals and 12 points on the season.
Edmonton returns to action on Saturday for the nightcap of Hockey Night in Canada. They’ll take on the Los Angeles Kings for the first time this season in a rematch of the first round. Hopefully, they can keep the good times rolling and go two wins above .500 for the first time this season.
