GDB 9.0 WRAP UP: Canadiens @ Oilers

What a difference a week can make! Last Monday, we were expecting the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse to rain hellfire down across the Nation. Fast forward to today, and the Oilers have cranked out three wins in a row and have been able to shut down two of the league’s biggest superstars. If the Oilers were going to extend their winning streak to four games, they had to shut down another league star in PK Subban and a better Montreal team. Well, tonight, the Oilers did exactly that.
Could you have ever imagined that the Oilers would be back at .500 just a week after starting the season 0-4-1? It’s like we’re watching a completely different team! Yes, you could argue that the Oilers deserved a win in game one against the Flames, but would anyone have predicted this turnaround? I doubt it. Regardless, the Oilers are on an Eastern Conference winning streak and we may have to lobby the NHL to move us to the East. Now, who knows Gary Bettman’s phone number?

THE BRIGHT SIDE
- Beautiful goal by Benoit Pouliot. Filthy pass by Marcobello.
- Yakupov with a huge hit on Emelin, and a goal in the 2nd period. #YakCityRising
- The Oilers were legitimately knocking the Habs around. It’s cool to be a bigger team than anyone — ever!
- Draisaitl keeps getting better and better. I still don’t think he’s completely ready for the NHL, but he had another solid game and will be sticking around.
- Ben Scrivens was solid all night long. Big win. Nice shutout.
- Solid defensive effort by Mark Fayne.
THE FACE PALMERS
- Way too many Habs fans at Rexall.
- ODD. MAN. RUSHES. Sweet merciful Nuge, it was getting ridiculous in the first period.
- Tough night for Eberle.
- I can’t seem to find out what kind of paperwork is needed to have the Oilers play in the East.
- Craig Ramsay appeared to have gotten dressed in the dark.
