Guess who got their Instagram account back?

4 years agoA few days ago, I wrote about losing our Instagram account, how annoying it is for us as a community, and what you guys could do to help us try to get it back. Well, after literally hundreds of tweets and Instagram posts asking to #FreeOfficialoilersnation, we got a notification this morning that our account had been unlocked. After a week in Instajail, @OfficialOilersnation is back.
To start this off, I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to tweet and post messages on Instagram asking that they give us back our sandbox and unlock our account. Seeing the Nation mobilize like this was overwhelming for all of us, and you made so much noise that it almost seemed inevitable that something good was going to happen. On both Instagram and Twitter, the #FreeOfficialoilersnation hashtag was getting hammered with use and we’re thankful to you fine folks for caring enough to join in the battle to get us unlocked. This community is truly something special and we’re forever grateful for all of you for being so passionate about everything from the team to the content on the site to helping us get our Instagram account back. Thank you a million times, Nation.
But what you folks didn’t see was the plot twist…
When getting our account back through the standard channels wasn’t looking so positive, Jason Gregor reached out to some higher-ups that I’m not allowed to name to see if there was any way they’d be willing to help us out. He explained how this community is not only good for the league but also a means of keeping the fans engaged regardless of the time of year or what’s happening on the ice. After seeing all of the noise you made on social media, our friends in high places agreed that this was important and they wanted to help. With some powerful friends and incredible community support pushing us forward, the overlords here at Nation HQ were able to explain the vision for what we’re doing, the importance of the community, and how grassroots movements like ON are helping to grow the game. Amazingly, all sides agreed that we should be allowed to do our thing. Thanks to all of your tweets and Insta posts, we had the ball rolling.
In closing, I know this is a little bit cryptic but we wanted to take a minute to thank each and every one of you for the role you played in making this happen. Without all of you fine citizens, no one at Instagram would have cared one lick about giving us back our account and we can’t thank you enough for your part in getting this done. There are some people that only see us as a silly hockey blog, but anyone that spends time around here knows how untrue that is and how this is more than just a website. It’s not often that a sports blog receives enough support to convince a social media giant to change their mind, but that’s exactly what happened here and I think that’s pretty damned cool.
Thank you, Nation, and thank you to Gregor for sticking your neck out to get this moving. We’re back, baby!
