Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane issued a statement Wednesday morning 12 hours after his wrist was cut open by a skate.
The freak accident happened during a Tuesday night game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kane had been taken to the ice and a number of players came towards him battling for a loose puck. Incidentally, the skate of Bolts forward Pat Maroon sliced Kane across the wrist.
“Obviously last night was an extremely scary moment for me and I’m still in a little bit of shock,” Kane said in a statement released via his Twitter account. “I would like to thank the entire training staff of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning, along with all the doctors and paramedics who rushed to help treat and repair my injury.
“Without all of you, I know things would’ve been much worse and I’m sincerely grateful.”
Kane was stabilized at Amalie Arena before being transported to hospital where he underwent imaging. Surgery likely occurred, however, there have been no reports as of the time of writing on what exactly happened.
“I won’t be back next game, but I will be back and I look forward to being back on the ice playing the game I love alongside my teammates in front of our great fans,” Kane added..
