People seem to have forgot about Drai, as the Edmonton Oilers forward was named the 2nd star of the month for January.
The German led the league through the month scoring 1.89 points-per-game in January notching six goals and 11 assists in nine games.
It was enough to launch him, past teammate, Connor McDavid for the league lead in points as Edmonton secured the bag (the Pacific Division’s best point percentage) getting points in 77.8% of games played. The 24-year-old is the first Oilers player since Jimmy Carson in 1988-89 to record multiple double-digit point streaks in a season.
Oh, and did we mention he did it all away from Connor McDavid? Because he did it all away from Connor McDavid.
Draisaitl has found a home as the driving force on the Oilers second line alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kailer Yamamoto. The trio have quickly become a dominant line at even-strength.
First star of the month was Washington Capitals F Alexander Ovechkin who led the league in goals during the month (13) while coming in fifth in points (15). Ovechkin surpassed four Hockey Hall of Famers on the NHL’s all-time goal list as he inched closer to the 700 goal mark.
Third star of the month was @Tampa Bay Lightning G @Andrei Vasilevskiy who carried a 9-0-1 record in January. The goaltender led the league in wins that month, while posting a GAA of 1.58 and a save percentage of .948.
