Producer Adam Scorgie’s hockey documentary Ice Guardians found great success in 2016. The film explored the journey that enforcers travel on their way to the NHL and why these warriors take on hockey’s toughest role. Adam’s next hockey film tells the story of one of the greatest goalies to ever stand between the pipes — Grant ‘Coco’ Fuhr.
The film will look at Fuhr’s entire career in what is being called “A Collision of Championship and Conflict.”
Furh became the Oilers starter shortly after his 19th birthday before his career would go on to span a nearly two decades. Fuhr’s story includes the highs of using his cat-like reflexes to win five Stanley Cups, two Canada Cups, and countless accolades along the way. The lows of a demotion to the minors after calling the hometown fans jerks, and being suspended for an entire season. Some will remember how Grant famously announced his retirement at the age of 26 in an effort to force a longterm contract from a hard-nosed general manager in 1989.
Wayne Gretzky once said of Furh, “I think he’s the best goaltender in the history of the NHL” and the Great One, along with a number of their teammates from the glory days, will provide an exclusive look into the high-flying Oilers of the 80s and what made them special. The film also speaks to some of Fuhr’s greatest rival to give a first hand look at what it was like to match up against one of the goalies in NHL history. These stories will all be highlighted on the big screen.
Scorgie will be joined by Director Don Metz and Co-Producer Shane Fennessey. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait long to see the film. It will premiere on Rogers Sportsnet in early 2018. Are you excited about the film? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
