The Edmonton Oilers will try to rebound from their first shutout loss on home ice since 2018 when they continue a three-game series with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday as slim -105 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton dropped a 4-0 decision to the Maple Leafs in Saturday’s series opener, and now sits six points back of Toronto in the race for the top of the North Division standings going into Monday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.

The hottest team in the NHL entering this past weekend, the Oilers struggled to maintain their recent offensive pace in Saturday’s loss. The club had averaged four goals per game over their previous six outings, but had no response to a pair of quick and early goals from Toronto, which were all the Maple Leafs needed to seal their first shutout win of the season. However, the Oilers have managed to remain resilient since overcoming a season-opening 3-6-0 run.
Edmonton has avoided consecutive losses since, going 11-3-0 over its past 14 games, and maintain strong +400 odds to eventually overtake Toronto and claim this season’s North Division crown at online betting sites. The team has also historically rebounded well from shutout losses, following up with a win in seven of their past 11 such outings.
However, if the Oilers are to eventually make a lengthy playoff run they must find a way to reverse their recent dismal track record against Toronto. The team has now dropped three of four to the Maple Leafs, and has recorded just one win in seven home dates with the Maple Leafs since February 2016, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. And as evidenced by Saturday’s loss, scoring has emerged as an issue when playing Toronto, with the Oilers tallying two or fewer goals in 11 of their last 18 matchups with the Maple Leafs.
Buoyed by a solid team performance in Saturday’s victory, the Maple Leafs return to action on Monday as -115 chalk. The club has been hit by injuries, most notably to goalie Frederik Andersen and center Auston Matthews. Andersen has been sidelined by a lower body injury, and Matthews has not skated with the team since suffering a wrist injury last week.
While John Tavares and Mitch Marner stepped up to fill the void left by Matthews, combining for four points on Saturday, goaltender Jack Campbell shone between the pipes. However, uncertainty lingers around the status of Campbell, who missed 14 games with a leg injury prior to Saturday’s win and did not participate in practice on Sunday.
