Connor McDavid has his first goal of the 2018-19 NHL season.
After picking up two assists in the season opener against the New Jersey Devils on the weekend, McDavid got on the board early in the second game of the season Thursday night in Beantown.
The 21-year-old phenom opened the scoring at TD Garden early in the first period after blowing past veteran blueliner Zdeno Chara and going five-hole on netminder Jaroslav Halak:
Ridiculous speed from McDavid, who is picking up right where he left off after a career-high 108-point season.
The goal comes after Chara gave praise to the youngster prior to the game:
“If you look at Connor, he played in the NHL at 18 years old but he could have played at 16 because he was so advanced. Because of the rules, he couldn’t but now he’s getting 100 points a year. If he came in as a 16-year-old he’d probably have 80 points. 17-year-old he’d have 90 points,” Chara stated.
It’s nothing new for the speedster, who became the first back-to-back winner in the history of the NHL Fastest Skater event in the 2018 NHL All-Star Skills Competition. McDavid finished his lap around the rink in a time of 13.454 seconds — almost unfair
The first of many for Captain Connor.
