McDavid visits Humboldt

There is a beautiful moment happening in the small town of Humboldt. In a town that is still reeling from the tragedy that took place with the Broncos, news has been surfacing over the last few hours that Connor McDavid has been spending some time in the community.
In his usual understated fashion, McDavid’s visit was not at all publicized until word started to spread that he landed in the community to spend time with some local kids. Clearly, McDavid did not want to make a big deal about this genuine and caring use of his time.
So how did it come out?
First, Steve Simmons, columnist with the Toronto Sun mentioned that he saw Connor, Ryan O’Reilly and their Junior GM, Sherry Bassin at the airport in Toronto, boarding a flight on their way to Saskatchewan.
Then over on Reddit, /r/EdmontonOilers, user /r/Tikker_G says that his son just had Connor show up at his school to spend time with the local kids. His son was even able to snap a photo, check that out here on the Reddit thread.
My Take:
This is just a beautiful moment from both 97 and O’Reilly. Spending some time with these kids is something so simple for players to do, and for these two guys to do it under the “cloak of darkness” really speaks volumes for their character. They’re just trying to make a terrible time a little bit brighter for a community that needs it and it’s an incredible gesture. To me, stories like this are what being a part of the hockey family is all about. I imagine the boys have already/plan to visit some of the players in hospital and otherwise and that just makes me feel a little misty-eyed. Well done, boys.
