Today’s game against the Florida Panthers will mark a milestone for Oilers winger, Milan Lucic, as he will be playing in his 800th NHL game.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft (50th overall), Milan Lucic developed into the prototypical power forward that all others were measured by. Often imitated but never duplicated, Milan Lucic provides a unique blend of size and skill that every team in the NHL searches for.
When he’s on his game, Lucic has the size and skill to take over games with both his physicality and ability to score timely goals. While this season has not gone the way Lucic would have wanted, there is no doubt that reaching the 800 game mark is a milestone to be proud of.
Coincidentally, Lucic was selected with the second round pick that the Oilers sent to Boston in the Trade Deadline deal that brought Sergei Samsonov to town for the 2006 Cup run 12 years ago yesterday (March 16th, 2016). On July 1st, 2016, Milan Lucic signed a seven-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers worth $42 million and an AAV of $6 million/season.
In 799 games played, Lucic has amassed 192 goals, 287 assists for 479 points.
