Johnny Gaudreau is no longer a Calgary Flame.

According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Flames superstar forward will be hitting the free-agent market and is expected to see suitors out east.

Gaudreau, 28, is believed to be garnering interest from the Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders — all three clubs with a few hours of his hometown of Salem, New Jersey.

He’s coming off his most productive year in his career and in 41 career games against the Oilers, has scored 16 goals and 36 points, so he should have no difficulty in getting a long-term deal. Despite that, it won’t be about money for Gaudreau — it’s about the location. It’s about his family. It’s about being back out east.

After drafting Gaudreau in the 4th round of the 2011 draft, there’s no denying the success he’s had in his career as an under-sized, late-round pick.

This was his last shift with the Flames.

It’s hard not to imagine the team moving on from Matthew Tkachuk, either. He is one year from unrestricted free agency and with his linemate Gaudreau off for greener pastures, you have to wonder what’s next for Tkachuk.

Now, onto some Oilers stuff.

According to TheFourthPeriod’s David Pagnotta, this could be the case.

He’s 27 years old and has only played 91 games in the NHL, but he’s a player the Oilers could covet. According to hockeyviz.com, Marchment provided even-strength offence at a 12 percent rate better than league average and defence at a 15 percent rate better than league average.

He’s also a player that new Oilers assistant general manager Brad Holland has liked in the past, so they could look to circle back to him. In the Daily Faceoff video above, Frank Seravalli mentioned that given his dad’s death, Marchment could be a player who waits a bit longer into free agency to find a home.

He’s remained a highly effective player scoring 27 goals and 57 points in 67 games this year. At 33, he’s still producing and has the size and sandpaper to help replace Evander Kane.

He could earn $6.138-million per year on a three-year contract in free agency, according to Evolving Hockey.

It sounds like the Montreal Canadiens will be pitching Brett Kulak on a return. As I wrote earlier today, Kulak is set to test the market and this afternoon, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported the Habs would be reaching out to him.
