This is one of those things that I really don’t want to write about but feel the need to do it because it’s newsworthy so I will. According to Milan Lucic’s Twitter account, some asshat(s) out there tried to break into his place when he wasn’t home and steal whatever it is that asshats look for. 

This afternoon on Twitter, Milan Lucic gave a shout out to his alarm company and the EPS for quickly responding to a burglary at his home:

My first thought when I saw the tweet was that I was upset for both Lucic and his family. There’s a sick and helpless feeling that comes with having someone going through your stuff that’s hard to shake and I’m guessing that it’s something that the Looch clan is dealing with right now on some level. One time, I had my SUV broken into with the person going through my centre console, trunk and glove compartment to look for money or whatever, and it left me with a really horrible feeling inside. It’s a kind of helplessness that you can’t really describe unless you’ve been through it and hope that passes quickly for Lucic and his family even though he said it was a failed attempt.

In my case, I remember feeling violated as I walked up to my truck, seeing that the door was open and finding my stuff scattered all over the vehicle. It was like a weird mix of uneasiness and also a punch to the gut, so seeing these tweets made me feel really bad for the dude. Failed break-in or not, this wasn’t just his vehicle that was sitting on the street as mine was, but his house where he lives with his wife and kids which takes this to a whole new level. That’s scary stuff and something no one should ever have to go through and, on an emotional level, I hope this is something they can get over quickly.

Lucic went on to clarify in a second tweet that it was his garage, specifically, that the thieves tried to get into but it’s not like that makes this any better.

You can say what you will about Milan Lucic as a hockey player and you can have your opinions about how he performs on the ice, but this is one of those moments where we can all universally agree that this is unacceptable. No one should ever have to go through the violation of having their home/garage/anything broken into and I feel bad for the guy and his family that they had to go through it. Luckily, the Lucics weren’t home at the time of the attempted break-in but I can’t imagine that it makes the feeling any better. Someone still tried to get in, and someone still wanted to steal his stuff.

Actually, now that I think about it, I almost wish that Lucic was home because there would be nothing more terrifying than a raging Milan stampeding your way after he discovered you trying to break into his house. Chances are that these douches didn’t know whose garage they were hitting (maybe they did, I don’t know) but I doubt that they would have been prepared to deal with 260 lbs of angry Eastern European heritage. I’m happy that the cops were quick to respond and that no one was home in the first place, but I would have loved to hear about some jackass getting his teeth knocked out by Lucic after he caught them trying to steal his shit.

From all of us here at the Nation, I want to send some thoughts out to Lucic and his family. I’m glad that you guys weren’t home when this went down even though I still have amazing visuals running through my head of Milan beating the hell out of these jackasses. I hope that the sense of violation you probably feel right now subsides quickly and that the cameras caught everything they need to make an arrest. I hope the cops find these people so that you and your family get to move on as quickly as possible. For everyone else, just try to live your lives as good people and know that breaking into anyone’s space of any kind makes you an asshole that society doesn’t need in any way. Seems simple enough.

The big man tweeted out late last night that there was no actual break-in attempt at his house, which is great news, but that a neighbour had accidentally smashed a car into their garage. First, how the hell did that happen? Forget which pedal was the gas and which was the break? Second, I’m happy for Lucic and his family to hear that no one tried to break into his house but he should probably have a talk with his neighbour about how to keep ‘er between the navigational beacons. I don’t know where Lucic lives but I’m guessing it’s in a nice neighbourhood with some driveway mixed in there that should have prevented this kind of thing. The good news is that there was no break in. The bad news is that Lucic’s neighbour is a terrible driver.
