The Edmonton Oilers have recalled forward Tyler Benson and defenceman William Lagesson from the Bakersfield Condors.
The club also announced that F Joakim Nygard and D Kris Russell have been placed on the injured reserve.
Benson, 21, has scored nine goals and 26 assists in 42 games with the Condors this year. Over his 115 AHL games, the 2016 second round draft pick has scored 24 goals and 80 assists.
Lagesson, meanwhile, has split time between the AHL and NHL this season appearing in two games with the Edmonton Oilers. In 25 AHL games, the rearguard has scored three goals and seven assists.
Nygard had blocked a shot with less than a minute in the first period against the Calgary Flames Wednesday night — one that caught him on the arm, and the forward did not return. The team says he has suffered a hand injury.
In 33 games this year, Nygard has scored three goals and another six assists.
Russell, meanwhile, was seen doubled over on the Oilers bench late in the game Wednesday against Calgary. It’s not yet known how he was injured.
The move to recall Benson is one fans had been calling for all season long. The forward has spent two years percolating in the American League posting tremendous numbers.
He’s well deserving of his recall and is expected to push for top 9 minutes in the Oilers lineup. Benson has yet to play in any NHL games, and could very well make his Oilers debut Friday night in his hometown of Edmonton when the St. Louis Blues pat visit.
