According to the Oilers’ official Twitter account, the team has recalled forward Colby Cave from the Bakersfield Condors.
With both @Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and @Zack Kassian on the shelf short term, the Oilers needed a forward option and I was wondering whether they might go with a more offensive option like Tyler Benson, but obviously, it was Cave that won the NHL paycheque sweepstakes. Playing predominantly on the fourth line, Cave is the kind of guy that plays a simple game that can be plugged in without making waves. Clearly, Dave Tippett trusts what Cave brings to the table, but his recall won’t bring much offence to into the lineup and it will be interesting how his insertion will affect the line combos for tonight and beyond.
In five games played with the Oilers so far this season, Cave has registered a single goal (a beauty against Pittsburgh btw) while averaging 10:52 on the fourth line. Colby Cave has been a little bit of a yo-yo with the Oilers lately, hasn’t he? He’s up and down and back again, but I guess that’s the life of an NHL tweener, right?
