According to the @Edmonton Oilers’ Twitter account, the team has recalled defenceman, @Joel Persson, from the Bakersfield Condors to fill for the injured @Matt Benning while also re-assigning @Caleb Jones and Stuart Skinner back to the AHL.
This afternoon, Edmonton placed @Matt Benning back on the injured reserve after the tough-luck game he had against the Canucks on Sunday night where he left the game a couple of times after being visibly shaken up. In his absence, Joel Persson will make his return from the minors and round out the team’s defence for the foreseeable future. In 10 NHL games played so far, the 25-year-old Swede notched two assists while averaging 15:43 worth of ice time alongside Oscar Klefbom on the second pairing.
In addition to Persson’s recall, the Oilers have also re-assigned @Caleb Jones and Stuart Skinner back to the Condors. After being recalled a few weeks ago, Jones has played in nine games for the Oilers and looked reasonably steady while doing it, so I’m a little bit surprised he was included in today’s roster shuffle. Clearly, the Oilers feel as though Jones can use further AHL seasoning. Stuart, on the other hand, makes perfect sense to go back as Mike Smith was back at practice with his teammates, meaning the injury suffered in Saturday’s loss to Vancouver couldn’t have been too serious.
