This morning, the Edmonton Oilers announced via their official Twitter account that the team has recalled Kailer Yamamoto and William Lagesson from the Bakersfield Condors.
After placing Markus Granlund and Brandon Manning on waivers for the purpose of assignment yesterday — they both cleared btw — the team has replaced the pair with Kailer Yamamoto and William Lagesson. As we know all too well, the Oilers are having a really tough time scoring goals right now and the hope will obviously be that Yamo can come in and help ease some of that burden. That said, it’s not like he’s lighting the AHL up the season, he has eight goals and eight assists in 23 games with the Condors, and it will be interesting to see whether or not he’ll be able to make an impact or where he’ll even be slotted in the lineup. You’d have to think that the plan would be to play him with some skilled players, right? As for Lagesson, this will be his second recall of the season despite not getting into a single game the first time around. In 21 AHL games, Lagesson has three goals and five assists for eight points while primarily playing in all situations.
In his first two stints in the NHL, Yamamoto put up five points (1G, 4A) in 26 games as he continues to work towards sticking with the big club. On the back end, the Lagesson recall is interesting as it adds another left-handed defenceman to a team that is ripe with them so we’ll have to wait and see how the pairings shake out in the coming days. Could another move be coming? Is Caleb Jones getting sent back? Does Tyler Benson need to trim his sideburns? What’s going on here? We wait.
