The Edmonton Oilers recalled goaltender Stuart Skinner on an emergency basis and announced goaltender Mike Smith is day-to-day with a leg injury.
The team also announced F Zack Kassian is day-to-day with a back injury, while DKris Russell has left the team to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
D Matt Benning will return to the lineup tonight.
Skinner, in his rookie season with the Bakersfield Condors, has been the club’s starting goalie for most of the season playing 15 games.
He’s posted a .890 sv% winning seven of the games he started this year.
Smith was clearly hurting in last night’s game, and has hit a cold streak over the last six games he has played going 2-4 and posting a .846 sv%. His numbers have been not good but yet he was kept in two of those games while clearly nursing an injury.
OilersNations’ Jason Gregor says Skinner will be the backup tonight as Mikko Koskinen gets the start.
630 CHED’s Jack Michaels says Matt Benning will draw in on the third pair alongside Caleb Jones, while Oscar Klefbom and Adam Larsson are on the second pair.
The Oilers are set to play the Vancouver Canucks on the west coast tonight at 8 p.m. finishing a back-to-back.
