The Edmonton Oilers will make up for one of last week’s three postponed games when they return to Montreal on Tuesday to take on the Canadiens as +115 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Last week’s three-game set in Montreal was postponed due to fears of COVID-19. However, it has still been a busy stretch for Edmonton, which will hit the ice for the third time in four nights in Tuesday night’s matchup at the Bell Centre.
Oilers vs Canadiens | OddsShark Matchup Report
After enjoying an unscheduled six-day layoff, the Oilers resumed action over the weekend with a pair of dates in Toronto. The team blew a 3-1 lead in a 4-3 overtime loss on Saturday that marked their fourth straight loss to the Maple Leafs. However, the team rebounded on Monday, eking out a 3-2 overtime victory, and now sits just two points back of first-place Toronto in the North Division standings.
Winners in eight of 11 overall, the Oilers have turned in mixed results in recent dates with the Canadiens. The Edmonton offense has sputtered in three previous meetings with the Canadiens this season. Oilers shooters tallied only five total goals in those outings, including just two total markers in a pair of outright losses in Montreal during the opening week of the campaign.
In addition, the Oilers have scored more than three goals just twice over their past 11 road games. That lack of production has started to become costly for the team, which has lost three of its past five road contests, with each of those defeats coming by a single goal.
However, the Oilers have managed to produce steady results when visiting Montreal. The Oilers have earned the win in eight of their last 10 road dates with the Canadiens, and limited Montreal shooters to just eight total goals over their past five meetings at the Bell Centre.
While the Oilers wrap up a hectic three-game stretch, the Canadiens return to action for the first time since March 20 pegged as -135 home favourites at online betting sites. The Canadiens have seen each of their past four games postponed after a brush with the novel coronavirus that forced forwards Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia into the NHL’s COVID protocol. While Armia remains out indefinitely, Kotkaniemi is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s contest after being removed from the NHL’s COVID list on Monday.
The Canadiens return to action aiming to win two in a row for the first time since February 2. Overall, Montreal won just seven of 14 contests during that stretch, but has picked up at least a point in five straight home outings.
