The Edmonton Oilers will try to solidify their grasp on second place in the North Division standings with a fourth straight win on Tuesday when they hit the ice for the first of two dates with the Vancouver Canucks as -130 road favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton recorded its most dominant win of the season last time out, routing the Calgary Flames by a 7-1 score on Saturday night, and now sits just six points back of the first-place Toronto Maple Leafs going into Tuesday night’s matchup at Rogers Arena.
Oilers vs Canucks | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Oilers took full advantage of a shaky Flames penalty kill and an off night by Calgary netminder Jacob Markstrom in Saturday’s victory as -130 home chalk at sports betting sites. Markstrom allowed five goals on just 15 shots before getting pulled, including a natural hat trick by Connor McDavid, and Edmonton tallied three markers with the extra man in the team’s most decisive victory since November 2017. However, the Oilers also needed a huge effort from netminder Mikko Koskinen, who was forced to make 43 saves to preserve the win.
The tandem of Koskinen and Mike Smith has slammed the door on opposing shooters during the Oilers’ current 9-2-0 run. The team has limited opponents to two or fewer goals in each of its past seven victories, and to just 2.64 goals per game over its past 11. And while the total finished OVER in Saturday’s contest, the UNDER has prevailed in each of the dates during the Oilers’ four-game win streak on the road.
Tuesday’s contest marks the Oilers’ first game of the season in Vancouver. The two teams split a pair of games in Edmonton to open the campaign, and the Oilers have come away with the win in five of eight overall meetings. However, consistent success in Vancouver has eluded the club. The Oilers have earned the win in just four of their last eight road dates with the Canucks, which marks a dramatic improvement after winning just five of their previous 22.
Overall, meetings between these teams in Vancouver have been low-scoring affairs. Total goals has not topped 6.0 in their past eight clashes at Rogers Arena, fueling a 5-0-3 run for the UNDER at sportsbooks.
That trend could be set to continue on Tuesday, with the Canucks pegged as +110 underdogs. Vancouver is coming off a 4-3 loss to the visiting Winnipeg Jets, which marked the team’s ninth defeat in 11 outings. Canucks shooters have averaged just 2.27 goals per game during that stretch, and have failed to pot more than three goals in a game during their current 1-2-2 run on home ice.
