The Edmonton Oilers can seize sole possession of second place in the North Division with a win on Monday when they open a two-game road series with the slumping Winnipeg Jets as a -110 wager on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Well rested after enjoying a four-day layoff, Edmonton aims to build on the team’s recent steady performance on the road, where they have won three of four going into Monday night’s matchup at Bell MTS Place.
Oilers vs Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Oilers’ recent break extends what has been a light schedule for the team, which has hit the ice for just eight games so far in the month of April. Winners in nine of their past 14 overall contests, the Oilers’ recent stretch has also been marked by steady defensive play.
Edmonton has limited opponents to one or fewer goals in three of the team’s past five outings, and has limited opponents to just 2.25 goals per game. That has extended a steady run for the UNDER in totals betting, which has paid out in eight of their past nine games overall, and in seven straight road contests (how the OVER/UNDER works).
Now trailing Winnipeg by just one point in the hunt for second place in the North Division, and holding two games in hand, Edmonton will be vying for a fifth straight victory over the Jets on Monday night.
The Oilers tallied a decisive 3-0 victory in their most recent trip to Winnipeg just nine days ago, and have held Jets shooters to just five total goals during that win streak. That marks a major about-face after surrendering almost five goals per game while falling to defeat in three of their preceding four clashes.
While the Oilers look to pick up where they left off last week, the Jets will be searching for answers when they face off on Monday night also sporting -110 odds at betting sites. Winnipeg opens the week riding its first three-game losing streak of the season after being swept in a two-game home series with the division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs this past weekend.
The Jets have particularly struggled on home ice, where they have been outscored by a wide 12-4 margin during their current three-game slide. They have also posted consecutive wins just once while losing eight of their past 13 home contests.
And while they have consistently filled the net on the road, averaging 3.80 goals per game while winning eight of 10, the Jets offense has been ineffective in recent dates at Bell MTS Place. Winnipeg has scored just 10 total goals during its current 1-4-1 run, and has lost seven straight at home when scoring three or fewer goals.
