The battle for second place in the North Division standings resumes on Wednesday night as the Edmonton Oilers wrap up their season series with the Winnipeg Jets as slender -115 favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton tallied a decisive 6-1 victory on Monday in the opening date of this two-game series, and now takes a one-point lead over third-place Winnipeg into Wednesday night’s matchup at Bell MTS Place.

While the Oilers have made gains in the standings while posting wins in 10 of their past 15 contests, Monday night’s offensive outburst was more than welcome. The team had managed to maintain its recent winning ways despite averaging just 2.33 goals per game over its previous 12 overall contests. The road had also been particularly harsh for the Oilers, who had mustered just two goals per game in their previous six away contests.
Connor McDavid has been key to the team’s attack in recent outings. The Oilers captain recorded his third hat trick of the season in Monday’s victory, and has now contributed to 10 of the team’s 13 total goals over the past three games. Now sporting a massive 15-point lead over teammate Leon Draisaitl atop the NHL scoring stats, McDavid has emerged as a heavy -1500 favorite to claim the Hart Trophy for the second time in his career at online sports betting sites.
However, the Oilers’ heavy reliance on McDavid to generate offense remains a concern. In addition to scoring more than three goals in just two of their past nine road contests, the Oilers have lost six straight when McDavid is held off the scoresheet. McDavid has also struggled to produce in the wake of a big night, scoring just two total goals in the eight career regular season games that have immediately followed a contest in which he has recorded a hat trick or better.
Fortunately, the Edmonton defense has also stepped up, as the Oilers have limited opponents to two or fewer goals in nine of their last 14 outings. The team has also dominated in recent dates with the Jets, giving up just six total goals while winning five straight, including a pair of victories in Winnipeg so far this month.
While the Oilers look to be rounding into playoff form, the Jets ride their longest losing streak of the season into Wednesday’s contest as -105 home underdogs (how the moneyline works). Winnipeg’s four-game slide has become particularly worrisome considering each of its recent losses have come on home ice.
Overall, the Jets have been outscored by a wide 18-5 margin during their current swoon, scoring more than three goals just twice while losing seven of nine at home.
