The Edmonton Oilers will be in must-win mode as they travel to Winnipeg on Sunday for Game 3 of their first-round playoff series with the Jets as -135 road favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com (how the moneyline works).
Edmonton hits the road after struggling offensively in back-to-back losses to Winnipeg on home ice that saddles them with a 2-0 series deficit going into Sunday night’s matchup at Bell MTS Place.
Oilers vs Jets | OddsShark Matchup Report
With Connor Hellebuyck continuing his stellar play in the Winnipeg crease, the Oilers have managed to score just one total goal despite outshooting the Jets in each of the first two games of the series.
Edmonton’s top producers have been anything but that so far in the series. Connor McDavid remains pointless in the series despite tallying six shots on goal in Game 2. Leon Draisaitl has also been held off the scoresheet so far in this North Division matchup, ending his four-game point streak against Winnipeg. In addition, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has now failed to tally a point against the Jets in consecutive meetings for the first time since 2017.
Now riding their first three-game losing streak since early March, the Oilers have mustered just two total goals during that stretch. Overall, Edmonton has fallen to defeat in six of the team’s past eight contests on home ice. However, they have enjoyed considerably more recent success on the road, where they have won nine of 10. The Oilers have also steadily produced in recent trips to Winnipeg, going 4-1-0 during the regular season including wins in each of their past three visits.
That success has failed to buoy Edmonton’s position on the NHL playoff series prices at sports betting sites. Winners in just one of eight previous playoff series in which they fell behind 2-0, the Oilers have fallen to +300 underdogs to rebound and knock off the Jets.
Now enjoying a 2-0 series lead for just the third time since the NHL arrived in the city back in 1979, Winnipeg looks to Game 3 as a +115 underdog. Facing tempered expectations entering the postseason after losing nine of their final 12 regular season contests, the Jets have enjoyed an impressive turnaround. The team has allowed just three total goals during its current four-game overall win streak after allowing 3.50 goals per game during a preceding 10-game swoon.
That has produced consistent results in totals betting, with the UNDER prevailing in six of Winnipeg’s past eight contests. More importantly, the Jets’ steady play has lifted them to -400 chalk to eventually knock off Edmonton. However, they have work to do to overcome a shaky 3-8-1 run on home ice.
