The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to rebound from a disappointing performance in Saturday’s 6-4 loss in Calgary when they open a two-game series with the Ottawa Senators on Monday as -210 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton’s goaltending concerns reached a new level as the team dropped its second straight game on the road, dumping its away record on the season to 2-3-0 going into Monday night’s matchup at the Canadian Tire Centre.

With veteran backup Mike Smith on the shelf indefinitely, Mikko Koskinen has been forced to shoulder a heavy load between the pipes with mixed results. Koskinen has started in 12 of the Oilers’ 13 outings this season, and struggled in recent road dates. In addition to surrendering 11 total goals over his past two road starts, Koskinen has allowed two goals in a two-minute stretch on six occasions this season. That includes Saturday’s loss to Calgary, in which the Flames potted a pair of quick second-period goals to erase an early Edmonton lead.
Overall, the Oilers have now surrendered four or more goals on seven occasions, including four of their past six contests. That has fueled a steady 6-1 run for the OVER on the totals at online betting sites. The team has also averaged five goals per game during a 3-1-0 run that includes a wild 8-5 victory over Ottawa during a two-game sweep of the Senators last week at Rogers Place.
Set as +175 home underdogs for Monday, the Senators showed vast improvement during a two-game weekend set with the Montreal Canadiens. The Senators halted a nine-game losing streak with a 3-2 character win in Montreal on Thursday, and followed up with another steady performance in a tight 2-1 loss to the Habs at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday afternoon.
Scoring, however, remains at a premium for the Senators, who have scored two or fewer goals in six of their past seven outings. That trend extends to recent meetings between these teams in Ottawa, where the Senators have scored two or fewer goals on five occasions while losing six of eight games.
These two teams will meet again in Ottawa on Tuesday night before the Oilers close out their road trip in Montreal on Thursday. Edmonton has posted wins in the opening game of each of its previous two multi-game road series this season, but followed up with SU and ATS losses in each of those series finales.
