It was an unexpected goaltending duel on Saturday night between the Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators. Up until late in the second period, neither team could find a way past Stuart Skinner or Anton Forsberg. Between them, they made 72 saves in what finished with the Oilers winning 3-1.
Offensively, Zach Hyman was the hero for Edmonton. The Oilers forward scored his third hat trick of the season to take his goal tally to 25 on the year. Along with Hyman, Evan Bouchard had a three point game, all assists, and Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each got assists in the win.
With that 3-1 victory, the Oilers move into a playoff spot ahead of the St Louis Blues with both teams sitting at 41 points. Edmonton is still behind the Vancouver Canucks by 12 points but they are creeping closer to the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights for either 2nd or 3rd in the Pacific Division.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are back live today at noon on Oilersnation YouTube channel for Oilersnation Everyday. You can drop into the show whenever you like to leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Finning/CAT live YouTube chat. Your thoughts are always welcome.
Outside of our Edmonton bubble, lots has happened in the NHL over the past couple of days including an injury to Connor Bedard. Bedard came across the blueline with speed and was hit by Brendan Smith. Was the hit clean or dirty? Let us know in the Finning/CAT YouTube chat. Additionally, the Toronto Maple Leafs resigned star forward William Nylander but how does still affect Mitch Marner’s future?
