The Edmonton Oilers grabbed their ninth win a row last night versus the Detroit Red Wings but it didn’t come with ease. Detroit’s goaltender, Alex Lyon put on a great display stopping 44 shots in what finished a 3-2 overtime win for Edmonton.
The game was scoreless heading into the third period but it wasn’t long before Andrew Copp broke the deadlock for the Red Wings. The Oilers did challenge the goal for goaltender interference after Christian Fischer made contact with Calvin Pickards glove; however, it was deemed a good goal after Pickard was considered out of the blue paint. Fans on social media didn’t like the challenge from Kris Knoblauch, especially after the Oilers didn’t challenge the no-goal from Zach Hyman versus Chicago.
Edmonton gave themselves a 2-1 lead with goals from Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman but the Red Wings scored one more to tie the game up at two a piece. Evander Kane thought he had a game winner with nine seconds left; however, it was disallowed after replays proved Derek Ryan made the pass with his hand. The game would then go to overtime and was won by Darnell Nurse giving the Oilers there ninth win in a row.
