The Oilers’ season hasn’t started as we thought it would, which meant we had much to talk about on the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today’s show, we looked at the Oilers’ tough start, the new line combos, and anything else we could think of to make sense of this start.
Kicking off the Tuesday episode, we started a delicious debate about the Oilers’ 0-2 start and how it may be too early to freak out, even if it’s not too early to be upset. Whether it’s a lack of 5v5 scoring, a lack of team identity, or the need for McDavid and Draisaitl to carry the team, there are areas in all three zones that the Oilers need to clean up even though it’s still so early in the season. Changing gears, we looked ahead at tonight’s matchup against the Nashville Predators. One thing that surprised many folks over the last 24 hours was the lineup changes Jay Woodcroft made at practice. We wondered if it makes sense to put McDavid and Draisaitl together so early in the year or if Woody should be more patient before returning to his nuclear deterrent. We also looked at Connor Brown getting bumped down to the third line as part of the shuffle. Given the high hopes for him coming into his first year with the Oilers, how disappointed should we be with his first couple of games? Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a new segment from Woz that helps him understand what the hell is going on with the Edmonton Oilers.
