As we finally approach the start of the 2021 NHL season, we knew that the divisions would have to be temporarily realigned in order to make this work, and now we’re starting to get a better idea of what those divisions will look like.
It’s obvious how the Canadian division will be set up, but how will the three American divisions be aligned? That’s a little bit more interesting. According to what I could find on Twitter and by cruising around the varying media outlets, the league’s current proposal would break the divisions down like this:
Boston – Buffalo – New Jersey – NY Islanders – NY Rangers – Philadelphia – Pittsburgh – Washington
Carolina – Chicago – Columbus – Detroit – Florida – Minnesota – Nashville – Tampa Bay
Anaheim – Arizona – Colorado – Dallas – Los Angeles – Las Vegas – San Jose – St. Louis
Ottawa – Montreal – Toronto – Winnipeg – Edmonton – Calgary – Vancouver
According to an article on Sportsnet, it should be noted that St. Louis and Minnesota may not be totally set in stone with where they’re placed right now, but that the rest looks to be correct. I don’t know about you folks, but outside of the Canadian Division, the most interesting new grouping, to me, has to be the one with Boston, Philly, Pittsburgh, etc, no? What do you think?
