Last week, I dove into the depths of hockey Internet to find some random stuff to talk about and a few of you asked me to do it again so here I am. This week, we’ll look at Gustavsson’s goal, a Gretzky throwback, nut shots, and anything else I could find that was worth talking about. Last night, Jonas Gustavson became the 12th goalie in AHL history to be credited with a goal. When I first heard that the Monster scored with the Condors down a man my imagination went running wild. Did he race down to the other end and fire off a knuckle puck like some modern day Russ Tyler from Mighty Ducks 2? Did he sink a perfectly placed shot into a gaping net with the goalie moving the other way kinda like Jordan Eberle did against the Avs on Thursday?

The real answer wasn’t nearly as fun as the scenarios that were running through my head, but that doesn’t change the fact that Jonas Gustavsson can now add a goal to his resume. As you can see in the video, the San Diego Gulls player tried to throw the puck back to the defence and it wound up sliding into the empty net. Not nearly as cool as a knuckle puck but it’s still pretty cool. Bonus points will be awarded for forcing Dallas Eakins to watch as his team scored on themselves.

The first pill shot I present to you comes from Sidney Crosby, who’s had quite the week with that weapon of his. Chris already talked about Sid chopping off Methot’s finger in yesterday’s Injury Report so I won’t go over it again, but we can still talk about his love tap to the figs of Ryan O’Reilly. I won’t make the same “he did it for Tim Hortons” joke that everyone else has made, but I will say that this week hasn’t been the best look for Crosby in terms of sportsmanship. As a man, I know exactly how a nutshot feels and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. Be better, Sid.

The next offender on the tackle tap suspect list is Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. As you can see, he and DP came together near the crease and Landeskog used the confrontation as an opportunity to kick him in the balls. I don’t know what Landeskog was thinking when he decided that booting a guy in the mommy-daddy button was going to be a good idea but it most certainly was not. Never do that. Don’t even think about doing that. If you know someone that is thinking about doing that, have that person arrested. Okay, so maybe that’s a little bit excessive but you know what I mean.

Stop man on man nut shot violence. We should have some kind of code for these things, boys.

Quick shout out to the Boston Bruins for giving this little man a surprise that he won’t soon forget. As you can see in the video, the kid got a pretty cool spot to stand while the Bruins were leaving their dressing room towards the ice. When I was his age, I would have been pumped to stand there and get fist bumps from my heroes so that in itself was cool of the Bruins to do, but the end of the video is the real win. Check it out for yourself and tell me that you too didn’t start chopping onions or have some kind of allergic reaction.

It was 23-years ago (on March 23rd) where Wayne Gretzky scored his 802nd goal which broke Gordie Howe’s long-time record. Wayne added 92 more goals to his total after the goal above which sets a benchmark that isn’t likely to be touched.

I guess if Jagr decides that he wants to play another 10 years or something (which could happen) then Wayne’s all time record of 894 is in sight but it will take a while to get there. Currently, Jagr has 14 goals on the season (763 in his career) and, at the current pace he’s on, it would take another 9.3 seasons to make up the difference.

Can it be done? In theory, yes. Will it be done? I wouldn’t count on it.
