The Edmonton Oilers and pending UFA defenceman Adam Larsson have yet to discuss a potential contract extension, The Fourth Period reported Tuesday.
A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to TFP on Monday that the Oilers have yet to reach out to Adam Larsson’s camp about a new contract and there are no talks are currently planned. –TFP
The news shouldn’t come as a major surprise to anyone at this point. Larsson, who was acquired by the Oilers in the 2016 Taylor Hall trade, hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations of an elite shutdown defenceman.
He’s played in 293 games with the Oilers scoring 14 goals and 62 points.
Given his status as a UFA and the young, right-handed depth the Oilers have in the organization, I have a hard time imagining a situation where he returns to the Oilers in any significant capacity.
His current contract pays him $4.16-millon and it’s safe to assume he would be seeking a similar deal even amid the pandemic.
