If you’re looking for an Oilers fix to get you through another hockey-less Saturday then you’re in luck because Sportsnet will be showing game 5 from the 2017 playoff series against the Sharks tonight at 7 PM MT. Are you excited? I’m excited.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m legitimately pumped to watch this game again. Maybe it’s because we haven’t had a chance to watch hockey in a while or maybe it’s because I want nothing more than to have the playoffs back in this city, but I’m jacked up to re-live what was undoubtedly one of the best nights I’ve ever had as an Oilers fan — this game had everything. Not only did the Oilers pull off an incredible comeback, but the atmosphere in the building was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before and I’m really looking forward to remembering what this city is like in the postseason.
Over at Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman reached out to a few of the guys that played in that game, including @Connor McDavid who had this to say about a big hit he threw that potentially turned things around:
“Obviously I was a young guy and in my first series. There were lots of new things going on. My first year of being a captain, with it being Game 5 in a tied series and being down, I for sure felt pressure to do something. I’m an offensive guy, so scoring a goal or making a play is what I would prefer to do in that case. But I had a chance to finish my check, decided to take it and it ended up being a big hit. Did it change the momentum of the game? I’m not sure, but I was just trying to do anything to help.”
Here’s what Chris the former Intern had to say in the Wrap Up after David Desharnais completed the comeback and finished things off in overtime:
I think I can speak for us all when I say the third period was the most nervous we’ve been for a game in the last few years as Oilers fans. The Sharks did a great job chipping away at the clock but we persisted. I swear Connor played like 25 minutes in that third period but low and behold our game-tying heroes were David Desharnais and Oscar Klefbom! Oscar practically took a running start from the red line and fired one off the post and in. I let out a scream from my couch, and I almost heard Rogers Place erupt from 20 blocks away as well.
But the OVERTIME. Don’t get me started on the overtime. The Sharks didn’t get their first shot on net until over twelve minutes into the period. The Oilers walked all over them and taught them a lesson about bouncing back from a 7-0 blowout. Five hours ago I was telling everybody how Desharnais should be scratched for this game and he goes out and scores two of the biggest points of his career. Excuse me as my hands are shaking while typing this.
We’re going back to Cali. Game six. Sleep well Oilersnation, or don’t sleep at all. That works too.
If you remember, game five between the Oilers and Sharks was a pivotal one as the series came back to Edmonton after the Sharks absolutely steamrolled our boys in game four. I was lucky enough to go to this game, and I remember thinking about how important it was for the Oilers to regain the series lead after getting pumped by a touchdown a few nights before in San Jose. As expected, Rogers Place was electric that night and even when the boys found themselves down 3-1, it never felt like the game was out of reach. I remember believing that they would find a way to come back, and I remember losing my mind in Ford Hall with everyone else when it was all over. What a night.
