The Canadian Playoff… uhhh… Lottery Party

Have you wondered if we would give you an excuse to round up your buddies, avoid your families, and wait in anticipation of a fifth first overall pick in the last seven years? The answer? Of course we’re throwing a draft lottery party. Why wouldn’t we? It’s kinda our thing at this point.

If you’re reading this article, you already know that there is nothing on this fine planet of ours that the Oilers are better at than winning draft lotteries, and that dedication puts us in a position to have a great night. Would we prefer to see more wins on the ice and not have to throw these kind of parties every single year? Obviously, but being good hasn’t been on the menu for the past decade, and we all need something to to feel good about. At least, we can all take solace in the fact that we’re finally approaching our Stanley Cup — the Draft Lottery. 

On Saturday night, we will be taking over the Pint Downtown to celebrate what could be the start of the second Oilers dynasty. I mean, it has absolutely nothing to do with winning hockey games but we’re calling it a dynasty nonetheless. Sure, it would be nice if we were celebrating five Cups in seven years again, but five first overall picks in seven years is impressive(???) in its own right. Most organizations would be utterly embarrassed by tying a an NHL record for 10 consecutive years out of the playoffs, but not our Oilers. Despite the addition of four first overall picks in years prior, we’re going to cheer on our favourite band of loveable losers in their pursuit of a fifth first overall pick. 

Coverage of the NHL Draft lottery is happening around 5pm, from what we can tell, and that means you need to get down to the Pint early. The first 216 people that get to the Pint will receive a scratch ticket for a chance to win some money courtesy of our friends at Cornerstone Insurance. We will also be holding a lottery ($5 per ticket) for a signed Connor McDavid jersey with all the money raised going to our friends at Bridges to Community Canada. On top of that, we will also buy a beer for everyone that shows up to the Pint wearing NationGear for the party. We want to look around the bar and see an ocean of NationGear staring back at us, and we think you can make it happen. 

As you guys know, we always like to include a charity angle with our parties and this time is no different. Although the party is free to attend we will still be trying to raise money for our charity partner, Bridges to Community Canada. Enter the NationLimo charity package. On Saturday afternoon, we will send the NationLimo to pick up you and your buddies, bring you to the Pint, get you decked out in a couple flavours of NationGear, and give you a $100 Pint gift card to get your night started.
