That’s far from how you draw them up.
Heading into the lead with a 3-1 lead, the Oilers allowed three unanswered goals ultimately dropping what otherwise looked like a clean victory.
The Oilers got up 1-0 early with a Connor McDavid goal, but Miles Wood responded not long after as the New Jersey Devils tied it at 1.
Derek Ryan tipped home a Tyson Barrie point shot 8:00 into the second to regain the Oilers lead, then it was extended to 3-1 1:26 later when Leon Draisaitl ripped home a powerplay mark.
But 1:14 into the third Wood got his second of the game jumping on a puck off the faceoff and scoring. Ryan Graves split the D fluttering a weak shot that trickled in at the 16:45 mark, then a streaking Jesper Bratt closed the game out seven seconds later.
It was a tough night for the Oilers and one they’re going to have to quickly learn from and put behind them as they move forward.
