It was the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins show Monday night as the Edmonton Oilers fell 4-3 to the Nashville Predators in overtime.
He had a two-goal performance helping keep the game tight all night long, but the Oilers were unable to pull through in the end.
Mattias Ekholm opened the scoring early in the first period and Jesse Puljujarvi responded with his first in 26 games four minutes later. Off a pinballing shot 2:57 into the second, Jordan Gross found the back of the net. Nugent-Hopkins took advantage of a tremendous Connor McDavid feed on the powerplay at the 4:22 mark.
While Matt Duchene would score a beauty at the 12:02 mark of the second to give the Predators a 3-2 lead, Nugent-Hopkins would respond again. His second of the night, however, would come 1:51 into the third period.
The Oilers tried to claw back into it, but a poor change in overtime led Alexandre Carrier a two-on-one where he managed to beat Jack Campbell top shelf.
