The New Guy

Oh hi Marc! I’m the new guy at Oilersnation! Nice to meet you. Some of you know me, but I’m assuming most of you don’t. I worked at TSN 1260 from 2011 until January 2018. I produced “The Jason Gregor Show” for the last three-and-a-half years.
I went to my first ever Oilers game when I was seven years old (a 3-2 OTL to the Canucks), I caught a Ryan Smyth warm up puck when I was 10, and Dallas Eakins once told me that my hair was “so distracting.”
I’m here to share some thoughts, post some memes, and most importantly I’m here to listen. I’m not here to say “I told you so”.
Let’s kick off my stint at the Nation with a quick round of “Ask me Anything”. (You can always Ask me Anything on Twitter @MarcMajeau or e-mail Marc@OilersNation.com)
There are many reasons, but the biggest one was that I’m just looking for a change and a new challenge. I was incredibly lucky to work where I did for as long as I did. The gang at 1260 is great, and I miss the people there a lot more than I miss the job. This also seems like the perfect time to say thanks to all the hosts I worked with at my time at TSN 1260. That includes Jason Gregor, Jason Strudwick, and Corey Graham. I learned a lot from all three.
Being slightly above the average height, I’m mostly here to get things off the high shelves. Also, I’m the manager of podcast properties.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a June of 2013. A friend of mine had acquired “Meet and Greet” tickets, so we arrived to the venue about two hours before the show. After clearing security, 15-20 of us were crammed into a small hallway in the bowels of Rexall Place. After standing in line for what felt like forever, it was finally our turn. We chitchatted for fifteen seconds, “the picture” was taken, and that was that.
And the time I met Taylor Swift was just before a concert.
Yes. I do. I like movies (Last two movies I saw in theatres were “Lady Bird” and “Black Panther” — two movies that have absolutely nothing to do with each other), music, and you, Reid Wilkins. Even though we worked at rival radio stations, Reid and the rest of the CHED crew were always very nice to me.
I see what you did there.
Many, many, many times.
This is an excellent question. I was leaning towards Mike Cammalleri, until Cam showed me Yohann Auvitu’s Instagram page. Yohann might be the most interesting man on the planet. Yohann if you’re reading this, you’re more than welcome to come on over to Nation HQ. We’ll go for Oodle Noodle.
The top line would have a mix of speed, skill and size.
LW – The Miz (An A-list level pest with some skill)
C – John Cena (The Franchise)
RW – Kevin Owens (Canadian!)
LD – Braun Stroman (Size!)
RD – AJ Styles (Sneaky puck moving defensemen)
G – Roman Reigns (Was a toss up between he and Brock Lesnar, but I don’t think a goalie should be a part timer)
It wasn’t in studio, but one time I answered the phone, and on the other end I heard “Hi Marc, it’s Wayne Gretzky. I’m ready for the interview.” That was a little nuts.
I said it earlier in this piece, and it’s incredibly cliche, but I’ll miss the people the most. What I won’t miss? Some of the egos in the industry.
Raymond’s dad had some great moments.
I know this website is “Oilersnation”, but I really wish I still had my Comeback Kid t-shirt that looked like the vintage Winnipeg Jets logo.
I think it’s a little of both. The Oilers have struggled at the draft for the better part of this millennium, and they’ve struggled developing anyone (with a few exceptions) outside of the first round.
As I type this, the Oilers currently have four wingers under contract for the 2018-19 season (Lucic, Puljujarvi, Kassian, Khaira – Strome, Slepyshev, Caggiula and Pakarinen are all RFAs while Maroon and Cammalleri are UFA), and there’s nobody currently in Bakersfield that I think can make an impact next season.
So… how do you fix this? Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but there’s a ton of pressure on Peter Chiarelli thisoffseasonn. There are a couple potentially interesting UFA targets (James Van Riemsdyk, Josh Bailey, James Neal), but would you want the Oilers to have ANOTHER immovable contract? Chiarelli is going to have to get create this summer if he wants to fix the mess at wing.
Keep the questions coming! I’ll do this once every couple weeks. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome at Oilersnation, and I’m looking forward to this adventure!
