If you remember back to September 26th, I wrote about the new website launch that we had coming and how everyone should expect the switch to come within 24 hours. Well, nearly two weeks later, the website has finally flipped and I’m asking for your help to make it better.
Listen, I’m not going to lie, I’m fully aware of how we way overshot the 24-hour timeline that I promised for the website relaunch, but I promise I wasn’t trying to lie to you. What happened behind the scenes is that we ended up with a long list of bugs to fix based on the feedback that was coming in from the wonderful readers at Flamesnation and Canucksarmy, and since we had those notes coming in, we wanted to try and knock as many off the list as we could before launching here at ON. What I will say is that I will absolutely take the jabs that came my way in the comments as a result of the delay, and I also fully acknowledge how hilarious some of the jokes were. In the end, we needed those extra days to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible before actually having all of you use the site. The task for us now is figuring out how we can make it better, and that’s where you come in.
The amazing thing about being around as long as I have is that I’ve actually seen this website undergo three separate facelifts. And every time we’ve done this, there have been bugs and glitches that we didn’t expect until we actually had traffic flooding into the site. Regardless of how much time we spent on the format, adjustments to the font, placement of ads, or how the pages flowed together, the reality is that we can’t think of everything internally and we need outside eyeballs to make sure we’re dotting the “I”s and crossing the “T”s. Before flipping the format, we actually had more than 100 family and friends work through the website to give us notes and feedback on how we could improve this relaunch, but even that amazing group of volunteers wasn’t quite the same as having Nation Citizens break the sites down from the landing page onward. That’s why we need your help.
I don’t care if you’re a daily reader of the website or just stumbling upon this article by accident, I’d love to hear your feedback on how we did with the relaunch and what we can do to make it better. No, I’m not saying that I want the comments section to get flooded with messages about how much you hate change, but rather some genuine thoughts and feedback on how we can improve. Is there a feature we used to have that’s gone and you miss it? Let me know. Are there formatting issues that are driving you nuts? Hit me up. Is the size of the font too small on your phone and you can no longer read the posts? Please tell me. The goal here is to make the new Nation Network team sites as user-friendly and easy to navigate as possible, and I’d honestly love to hear your thoughts on how we can make that possible.
Over the last 15 years, this community and website have grown beyond anything we would have expected and that means we’ve got a duty to make sure the experience you have on the site is what you’ve come to expect from us. And now that we’ve got a fresh new canvas to play with ahead of the 2022-23 NHL season, we’d love to know if you have any ideas or thoughts on how we can make it better for everyone. Thanks, Nation. We appreciate you more than you know.
