Let’s party like it’s 2006.
Ahead of Game 1 of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings, the Edmonton Oilers have brought back the iconic “This is Oil Country” sign that used to be part of Rexall Place’s upper bowl.
Back during the 2006 playoff run, the ‘This is Oil Country’ sign was visible in many highlights that showed the crowd in Edmonton and the banners that hung in the rafters. It’s one of those things etched into the brains of Oilers fans from that run, much like ‘Pump It’ by the Black Eyed Peas.
Next up, I recommend they bring back Rexall Beers and the Oil Derrick to really get the nostalgia vibes rolling.
Monday night’s game between the Oilers and Kings will be the first playoff game played with fans in attendance in Edmonton since the Oilers crushed the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 7-1 in Game 6 of the second round in 2017. That’s a span of 1,811 days.
