The Working Citizen’s Contest Finalists

Over the past week I’ve been collecting pictures of hard hats, photoshops of our beloved intern, and waiting for the moment when I could unveil them all. Today is the day when we crown a new champion. Today is the day when we start to learn which of the following heroes will win a brand new OilersNation hard hat courtesy of Jobsite Workwear. Ladies and gentlemen, these are your Working Citizen’s Contest finalists.

If there’s one thing we love at Nation HQ it’s safety. Sometimes we find ourselves screwing nothing into a brick wall (as seen above) and we can’t help but think about how we can complete such a task without getting injured. Luckily our friends at Jobsite Workwear have released this 100% fully certified Nation hard hat to ensure that our melons remain unscathed while the jobs get done. We want to share that same reassurance with you fine citizens that are out there working in the real world.

1) NUGE FOR SAFETY

If there’s one person on earth that cares about safety it’s young Nugey (note the shirt). Nugey is so safety obsessed that he still sleeps with the guards on his bunk beds and his house covered in bubble wrap. My friends, I think we’re looking at that kind of dedication to safety in this picture. Not only is our hero striking a casual pose he’s also making sure that no rogue tools hit him on the head when he’s not expecting it. Smart!

2) THE INTERN HOUSING PROJECT

Looking for a new home on the cheap? Look no further because young Chris the Intern is the man for the job. Does he have experience? No, of course not. But he will build you a house in record time! Sure, the place may collapse and there will be stray nails poking out of everything but it will certainly be the cheapest house you’ll ever buy. No joke, as I write this Chris the Intern is literally building some cabinets for Nation HQ. It’s the life he was made for.

3) HOW’S MY TAN?

I love the idea that the champion featured in the picture above was concerned about the safety of his head but not of his bare flesh. I’ve never been to a job site like this, but I can only imagine that finding the time to work on a bronze can be tough. You don’t want to wear sunscreen and the only way to make that happen is to get a good base down. I think that’s what we’re seeing here and I appreciate the effort.

4) ONE LOOK

I love this picture. Look at our hero’s left hand and you’ll notice that he is holding his radio and is ready for action if called upon. He won’t let a workplace selfie take him away from his duties, and I admire that dedication. Not to mention, is this dude wearing an Octane shirt? *inspects image closer* I THINK HE IS. If an Oilers Octane t-shirt isn’t enough to inspire you to vote than this moustache surely is.

5) BLUE AND ORANGE LIFE FOR LIFE

I’m not convinced that the handsome gentlemen shown in the picture above didn’t take this specific job because of the Oilers colours. The coveralls are blue, the hard hat is orange, the hoodie beneath it all features the logo of our beloved hockey squadron, and the smile leads us to believe that better times are ahead. I don’t know where this field is located, but I can only imagine the kind of ground punchers and heavy machinery that’s around and I’m hoping that our contestant is as dedicated to safety as he is to colour coordination.

6) THE THINKER

What kind of McDavid related thoughts are running through this man’s head? I imagine that he’s picturing himself sitting at Rexall Place with a tray full of beer on his lap only to have those beers spill everywhere after he jumps skyward to celebrate Connor McDavid’s third hat trick of the game. At least that’s what I think he’s imagining… He could be thinking about pogs for all I know.

7) THE HARD HAT YOU DESERVE

He is not the intern this city needs. He’s the intern this city deserves. The disturbing part of the picture above is that Chris the Intern is just as likely to have caused this fire as he is to solve whatever problem surrounds it. Luckily for us all Chris is not in charge of anyone’s safety, nor will he be responding to any emergencies in the capital region. Modelling? Chris the Intern has that bit covered.

THE VOTING

No contest is complete without prizes and this one is no different. Our finalists will be battling it out over the following prizes so spend your vote carefully.

We’ll pick 5 random entrants to win an Oodle Noodle GC and a sticker package.

As always, the voting will take place in the pollz on the right hand side of your screen. I will keep the voting running right through until I come into work Friday morning. Once the winner has been voted in I will make the announcement on our Twitter and Facebook page.
