Throwback Thursday: On this day in 2006, Dwayne Roloson remains winless in Edmonton Oilers uniform

Welcome back to this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday!

On this day in 2006, Dwayne Roloson and the Edmonton Oilers lost 4-3 to the Minnesota Wild as the new netminder still searches for his first win with the Oilers.

Roloson, of course, had been acquired by the Oilers on March 8 in exchange for a first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick.

After the deal, the Oilers went on a four-game losing skid falling to the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the aforementioned Wild.

“I don’t care who you are, you’re not going to save those one-timers from the top of the circles,” said Shawn Horcoff following the loss to the Wild. “We have to get better for him… I mean he made some big saves for us — and that goes unnoticed.”

Roloson, meanwhile said “I don’t know the team well enough to say what’s going on, but we’ve had leads, we’ve dominated teams. We just have to continue that through 60, 65 minutes. We can’t let up and I have to give our guys a chance to win, try and make a save when I can and do whatever it takes.”

The streak, however, was broken in the Oilers next game — another match against the Wild — on March 14 that saw goals from Chris Pronger and Ryan Smyth lead the way enroute to the Oilers victory.
